This is what people have said about Just a Mulligan Stew:

I visited Janwillem van de Wetering, famous author of detective fiction, personal stories of zen, and children's books.

This has to be told as a story: I had bought a '65 Ford Falcon Squire station wagon in Atlanta and was driving back to Western Canada, via Maine to see Janwillem. I stayed at his retreat, gave him a copy of swimming in mulligan stew. We went for breakfast. the conversation went:

jw: I read your book last night

me: Is it publishable?

jw: I can answer in 3 ways - no, aaahhh, and yes. The  answer is yes - get it published as quickly as possible.

Marshall Tulin, a world renowned expert in historical oceanography and such, from Santa Barbara, California, said:

"You are the next Dashiell Hammett."

Christine, a midwife in England was the first to read swimming in mulligan stew. She reported that she started to read it but could not put it down until finished.

Tammy Lenski, a mediator from New Hampshire,  wrote:

"I finally had a quiet day to sit down and read, and I just read your book from cover to cover.  What a fun and entertaining read!  I'm always amazed at the way that detective fiction writers can weave a story like that - what a skill.  Mulligan's character is wonderfully developed and funny, too. Where can I buy more?"

4.0 out of 5 stars Crime on Wry: "Swimming in Mulligan Stew" by John Boland Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2015 The first person narrative is energetic and fun - the voice is wry and spot-on for the genre. Enjoyed the description of characters, and locations. Private Investigator/Counselor Mulligan manifests interesting combo careers! The travels and tribulations of Mulligan are an entertaining ride.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I admit that I am partial to private eye books written in the first person. The story pulls you in and keeps moving with humor and intrigue. If you are looking for entertaining characters, a refreshing book and a ripping good read, this book is worth your while. My name is almost the same as the author's. But the book's value stands on its own merits.
